Frequently Asked Questions

I have had an accident, what should I do?

Make sure you have all the information from the accident:

  • Name, address & phone number from all drivers involved
  • Vehicle make, model & license plate number
  • Insurance carrier, policy number & phone number
  • Time, date & location of accident
  • Police report (if not available yet, please bring in ASAP)

Assess the damages to your car to see if it is safe to drive.  You should never operate an unsafe vehicle.  If it is determined to be drivable, then bring your vehicle and paperwork to Autocraft.  If it must be towed, call us at Autocraft and we will arrange to have the car towed for you.


Do I need to get more than one estimate?

No, Connecticut law states that you do not have to get more than one estimate for your vehicle.  It is your choice where to get your car fixed, therefore you don’t need more than one estimate.


My insurance company says that I should take my vehicle to their preferred shop.  I want my car fixed by Autocraft only, what should I do?

It is against the law for any insurance company to steer their clients to their “preferred” shops.  It’s your car, your choice!  Tell your insurance company that you want the professionals at Autocraft Corporation to repair your car then bring your car to us, we’ll handle the rest!


Should I take my car to a drive in claims center?

The insurance company has a right to inspect your vehicle for the damages.  You and only you have the choice of where it will be inspected:

  • You may go to the insurance company (if they have a drive-in location) then you can bring it to our shop after they have inspected it.
  • The insurance company can come to you
  • Your insurance company can see your vehicle at our shop where our staff will inspect the vehicle with the appraiser

How long will the repairs take?

At Autocraft, we want to make sure the job is done right the first time.  We never want to rush a job at the expense of the safety of your vehicle.  Sometimes we may encounter delays when the parts we need are not available locally or we have to wait for the insurance appraisers to come back to re-inspect your vehicle.  In order to get your vehicle back to you in a timely manner, we normally order your vehicles parts when you schedule your vehicle for repairs.  We can give you an estimated completion date but unfortunately, we can’t make any promises.


Do you offer rental cars?

We do not offer rental cars, however, we can arrange to have Enterprise Rent-a-Car deliver a rental here for you when you drop off your car at Autocraft.  Enterprise will also pick up the rental vehicle at our shop when your repairs are finished.  At Autocraft, we strive to alleviate the stress involved with you accident!


My estimate is higher than my insurance appraisal.  Does that mean that I am responsible for the difference?

No, you are only responsible for your deductible (if you have one).  Remember, it is only an estimate.  There might be other damage that your insurance company has not seen.  Our professional staff will document and photograph any additional damages found for your insurance company to reimburse us for these cost.
